Wildlife Safari in Munnar

Nestled in the serene folds of the Western Ghats, Munnar is not just famous for its emerald tea plantations and mist-covered hills—it’s also a thriving haven for wildlife enthusiasts. A wildlife safari in Munnar offers an unforgettable journey into the heart of Kerala’s rich biodiversity, where rare species and lush landscapes await discovery.

Eravikulam National Park

Home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, Eravikulam is Munnar’s most renowned wildlife sanctuary. The park also shelters leopards, barking deer, sambar, and over 120 species of birds. Safaris and guided treks offer visitors the chance to explore the rolling hills and catch a glimpse of elusive wildlife in their natural habitat.

Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary

Located about 60 km from Munnar, Chinnar is a dry deciduous forest that contrasts beautifully with Munnar’s lush greenery. It’s one of the few places in Kerala where safaris are permitted, and it’s known for sightings of the Grizzled Giant Squirrel, Indian Star Tortoise, elephants, and leopards.

Pampadum Shola National Park

Kerala’s smallest national park, yet rich in biodiversity. “Pampadum” means “where the snake dances,” reflecting the region’s mystique. This park is ideal for eco-tourism and low-impact safaris, with excellent opportunities for birdwatching and spotting rare orchids.
